Contingency Planning Software: Incident Manager, Powered by WebEOC
Strohl Systems and ESi®, the leader for Emergency Management Systems have teamed up to develop Incident Manager®, powered by WebEOC®. Countless organizations all over the world have used both companies’ products to help them gain and keep control over any type of disruption they encounter. The new Incident Manager combines the power of Strohl’s business continuity and crisis management experience with the functionality and ease of use of ESi’s WebEOC product. As an integral part of Strohl’s complete suite of planning solutions it enables remote incident communications, tracking and monitoring of events…all online.
Incident Manager uses a proven methodology focusing on three key areas, life safety, impact assessment and recovery and restoration. The program utilizes a series of screens called “boards” to track and resolve issues as they arise, allowing information traditionally collected via white boards or sticky notes to be collected and organized in an electronic format.
Manage the Incident
How does Incident Manger enable users to respond to incidents in “real time” without requiring participants to be in the same room?
- Coordination: The best way to beat a disaster is to keep control of the situation. At a glance, Incident Manager gives you a broad scope of the situation and makes it possible to track your progress.
- Communication: Never will it be so important within your organization. Features like chat, e-mail and incident escalation will ensure a more efficient and effective recovery.
- Methodology: Incident Manager follows best practices developed by using ICS (Incident Command System) principles, however it is flexible to suit any EOC or Incident Response Center methodology, including yours.
- Scalability: The virtual command center means Incident Manager can be just as efficient running from a laptop in an ad hoc meeting place as from a large corporate EOC (emergency operations center).
And being Web-based means you have the most important thing on your side when dealing with a crisis: speed. During your response, relevant information is available to anyone logged into the secure application (no matter where they are located at the time), which provides:
- Status reports on the unfolding situation, including the safety of your people.
- The ability to better evaluate the situation, make assessments and prioritize courses of action.
- Improved ability to monitor teams, processes and situations.
Organizing and Displaying Your Effort
In a manual environment, information is typically posted to a status board with markers and sticky notes. Incident Manager provides the ability to input information directly into the system through its various boards. Each Board is built around a standard methodology and they work in conjunction with each other. Situations, unfolding events, action and approval items can be shown, escalated to other boards and flagged to gain the attention of core team members reviewing them. They can be displayed on several walls in an EOC via multiple projectors or monitors, providing you with a visual grasp of how your response is progressing.
In addition to organizing your information, Incident Manager also provides a visual display of your situation with MapTac™. MapTac is a unique tool that enables users to “publish” a map, dispersion model, digital photo, floor plan, etc., from any map/GIS source or digital camera. The user can place markers, shapes and labels on the map from a palette and share it with fellow users through a Web browser instantly. These icons can represent the incident scene, show the location of responding units, identify forces assigned to staging, display roadblocks, etc.
